Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) CompatibilityGuiding your child to develop a love of reading from an early age is a priceless gift you give as a parent or educator. Not only will it help to prepare the little one to succeed in the classroom, but also will give her or him a lifelong enjoyment of books.
Before your child is literate, spending time reading everyday can help teach how print is organized and read. Additionally it can foster positive associations between reading and quality time with you. While reading this book or any other age appropriate rhyming children's book with your little one, you can work towards several of the Reading and Oral Language Goals for the Virginia SOLs, particularly for Kindergarten students.
